Thanks for the great comments guys. I've posted an update on the book and its progress.

I found Vince Webb (www.vincewebb.com) in the iDevGames forum. This is a great forum and is full of great information. They even have a forum where artists and musicians can advertise their skills.

I found Ryan Sumo by doing a general search on the web. There is plenty out there but I found some good reviews about Ryan and I have to say that they were all true. His prices were reasonable and his work was always ahead of time and of great quality. At some point I'm going to post the concept art he did while we talked about the look and feel for the game. Amazing stuff. I'll be working with Ryan again for sure.

Hi again Mike, looking good fella, looking forward to the book, hurry up :P

One question though, you said you got someone to write the music and draw the graphic for you, how did you find these people, also can you share the details for the sound maker. I too am working on a game but unfortunately am only a code cutter not a graphics or sound man.

Very Nice! There are virtually NO good books on game development for the iPhone. This sounds like a true Gold Mine for developers judging by your tutorials! If your book includes the complete source code for your project, this will be the definitive iPhone Game Bible! I like cocos2d but its limited, OpenGL is a much better approach and it makes better programmers once its learned. I appreciate all the hard work you do. GREAT JOB!

Wow you really captured the Spectrum/Timex Sinclair "spirit" with the game. Excellent job. Are you planning to publish the book in Rough Cuts format? (so we can have it before summer).
Great Job

I commissioned the graphics from a great artist based in the Philippines called Ryan Sumo. His stuff is excellent and he is great to work with. You can see some of his work at http://ryansumo.carbonmade.com/

Hey Mike, looks really good.
Also, the faded spotlight effect on the entire view is a really nice touch.

Did you also do the graphics, or someone else? (who)

thanks!

@fredflintstone, I'm looking to get the game up for approval in March. I've not decided on a release date yet as I'm working with the publisher on what the timing should be with regards to the book. The book is due to be published early summer.

Hey Mike,

The game is looking really good, I cannot wait to play it.

Do you have a timetable on when the game and the book might be released? I am looking forward to both.

Hope all goes well, thanks for tutorials

@Ralph, thanks for the comments. I'm actually going to be releasing the game for free on the App store. It's really to get it out so people can see what it looks like and then if interested in how it was written buy the book. So not much of a revenue stream on the game itself :o) I am planning though to write more games when the book is done and actually sell those. With all the work and contacts I've made, I think it would be a lot of fun.

@hey-ben, your right, the settings, high score, credits and instructions are UIViews. I've just finished writing about this in the book and once the book is out it will be a subject I cover in a tutorial :o)
