Voices That Matter: iPhone Developers Conference
Hi all
I’m going to be speaking again at the Voices That Matter:iPhone Developers Conference running the 16th and 17th October in Philadelphia.
This is looking to be a great conference which some great leaders in the iPhone development world including:
Erica Sadun
Stephan Kochan
Jeff LaMarche
to name but a few. There are a number of different threads over the two days including one on game development, which is the thread I’m talking in. My session is the last session on Sunday called “Moving into 3D”. I’m currently developing a simple 3D game which is also integrated with the gyro on the iPhone 4, so you can physically look around you to see the world your in. My talk will go through the steps that take you from the OpenGL ES XCode template to the 3D game. As it takes shape I’ll share more details.
Early bird pricing is available until September 10th which is worth checking out.
I certainly recommend attending if you can as the topics covered are many and varied and its great to interact with some of the great authors and thought leaders who will be there.
If you are able to attend then make sure to introduce yourself to me as a blog reader. It would be great to meet you :o)
Hope to see you there
Mike

I would certainly attend if I could! Being in Canada, I don’t often have the opportunity to attend such things.
I just wanted to stop by and post a comment to thank you for posting your tutorials! One day, some time ago, I had a vision of a game I’d love to create. More of a moment of inspiration, I suppose, and your videos have helped me realize many components of my game that would have taken me forever to tackle on my own. I am still very much in developmental stages (artwork in a pain), but I wouldn’t even be this far if it were not for you. I come from a background of Assembly and C, with some mild experience in C++, so the object-oriented model was a bit difficult to understand. However, your videos make things much clearer, and I now find myself with a solid understanding.
Sir, I propose to you, that if you’re ever visiting the Atlantic provinces, or if I ever find myself over there, I owe you a drink.
Cheers!

Excellent :D This is the type of talk I would love. A dev coming from a background that a lot of Iphone developers come from.
Congratz. look forward to seeing this on itunes (i guess?)

Thanks for the feedback guys.
@Hmpf, well spotted and thanks John for correcting it :o)
@Trisect, in short, yes, I’m hoping to introduce some 3D tutorials to the website moving forward, as well as other 2D tutorials that I think could be useful.
@Dan, I don’t think the sessions are being recorded :o(, but I’m looking to cover the topics on the blog going forward.
Cheers
Mike

I am attending the Conference and I cannot wait! I am a beginner iPhone developer, currently going through The Big Nerd Ranch’s book, but my ultimate goal is to be able to program 2D/3D games.
I was planning on attending your session on Moving to 3D, would this be over my head being a “beginner”? I most likely will be buying your book once I get to that point.
Thanks,
Ryan G.

Hi Ryan
My intention for the session is not to do a massive deep dive into the subject. I want to run through the creation of a complete game in 3D using as little code as possible.
I’ve only got just over an hour, so I’ll be going over stuff at a high level and hopefully giving enough info you’ll see why something has been done.
The 3D game project I will be using will also be available after the presentation for people to download, play with and learn from.
I do want this to be a beginners view into getting up and running in 3D without it being too scary in terms of OpenGL and 3D math :o)
Looking forward to seeing you there.
Regards
Mike
