Vimeo

We are in the process of moving all our videos to Vimeo. You will still be able to download the original .mov files from there but on a limited basis. We have had no option as the bandwidth is going to kill us very quickly :(

This also explains why there has not been much activity on the blog recently. We should resume to normal very shortly.

Thanks.

I’m just starting to watch your videos and understand why you’d want to offload the bandwidth required to another service. They are really helpful and clear, and the video quality makes it easy to follow along!

Now I’m concerned about this Vimeo move. I’d like to be able to keep copies locally so I’m not always streaming. Can I request that you enable (or not disable) the ability to download the video? Hopefully that would preserve the video/audio at it’s best. Thanks!

Hi,

There will be an option to download the original .mov file. I will hopefully be implementing this later this week.

Thanks
John.

Awesome. But why “for a limited basis” ?

John  on September 3rd, 2009

Hi,

I think Vimeo limit the amount of times a user can download the original video. Not sure with their Plus account.

If we were to offer them for download form our server it would defeat the purpose of moving them to Vimeo.

Should have links up later today. :)

Hi John,

Have u look into peer to peer sharing?

Hi Rookie,

What like BitTorrent?

Rookie  on September 4th, 2009

Yes. I recalled luxology.com also use bit torrent to spread it’s modo software content which are quite big. Without their serial of course. But I am too sure of how the detail work.

Rookie  on September 4th, 2009

Not too sure how it work.

Hi Rookie,

I will certainly look into it as another avenue of getting Mike’s video’s out there.

Thanks.

Have you considered using http://www.viddler.com.

Hello everyone.

First, I would like to congratulate you guys because these tutorials are very helpful. Good job ;)

Two questions:

1) Is it possible that the links of the videos are broken? I can’t see the videos anymore :/

2) How did you make this videos? I mean, how do you do those zoom effects? Is post-edition? Is a functionality of the software you use to capture the desktop? Or is some system feature I miss?

Thank you very much.

Hi Zeipo and thanks for the comments.

We are in the process of moving the films due to bandwidth issues so any broken links should be fixed shortly.

All the tutorials are filmed using ScreenFlow. This is a fantastic piece of software that not only does the recording by has a great editor that allows you to add post recording effects such as zooming etc.

Ok, all the videos are working now and there is a download option at the bottom of the video screen.

Thanks

My fears went un-realized. The Vimeo stream is beautiful and isn’t choking my DSL line. Thanks to the team there for getting this working so well, I am so grateful for your work.

Thanks :) Glad it all worked out good.
